· The name and address of the person to receive the tax receipt.
· The daytime and evening phone numbers to set up an appointment to pick up the donated vehicle.
· The year, make and model of the donated vehicle.
· The tag number and the VIN number.
Once the vehicle has been through the first auction, we will send you a tax receipt. Lines will be provided for you on that receipt to fill in the Blue Book value of the vehicle and the resource used to attain that value.
An easy place to find that amount is the N.A.D.A. Guides or Kelly Blue Book. You can print out the value of the vehicle and attach it to the letter you receive from HAND. We also suggest you review IRS Publication 526 which sets forth the manner in which the IRS requires you to determine the value of your donated property.
If the value of the vehicle is more than $5,000, HAND will have it appraised and that information will be mailed to you. The letter and the appraisal will serve as a tax receipt.
This program can be a win-win as you can get a vehicle you are not using out of your driveway and receive a tax deduction and HAND receives a donation that can help the animals in our care receive the care and attention they need.
The following guidelines apply to donated cars, trucks, vans and motorcycles:
· The donor must have a clear and transferable title that can be turned over with the vehicle. If you have a title, but are not sure of how to transfer it, please call 423.756.HAND, or email us.
· All tires must be on the vehicle and inflated.
· The vehicle must have an engine.
· If the vehicle does not run, it must be within 20 miles of downtown Chattanooga and a 1990 or newer model. If the car does not run because the battery is dead, this does not apply.
Boats, unlike cars, cannot be sold for scrap. Therefore, if we are unable to sell the boat at auction, it costs HAND money to tow and leave it at a junkyard and therefore ends up hurting HANDs’ bottom-line.
The following guidelines apply to donated boats:
· The donor must have a clear and transferable title that can be turned over with the boat. If you have a title, but are not sure of how to transfer it, please call 423.756.HAND, or email us.
· All boats must be on a trailer with tires inflated.
· Boats need to be water-worthy without any holes in the hull
